Business blogging is quite different than personal blogging.  Business blogging should always be focused and done with a purpose.  You can use your business blog as a powerful channel to improve your search engine rankings and at the same time, increase the number of targeted traffic to your website and increase the visibility of your social media marketing campaigns.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) involves everything to improve your website rankings on the search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. You can optimize your business blog as well to increase the number of quality traffic to your website and other digital profiles. This is very easy to do and you can start by using your selected keywords in the titles of  new blog posts, categories and in the content of the blog post.

In my experience, a blog is an excellent tool to increase the rankings of your website.  To get the best out of it, try to include your business blog on the same domain as your website domain such as http://blog.yourdomain.com or http://yourdomain.com/blog.

A blog does not mean instant success

By only creating a blog doesn’t mean you will automatically improve your rankings.  Blogging involves the writing of keyword rich content that your targeted readers will find compelling, original and creative.  Selected keywords and keyword phrases should always be used in the titles of your blog posts as well the categories on your blog. Another critical step is to link keywords in the content of your blog posts to the most relevant page on your website.  Using keywords in the link text (anchor text) that links to an optimized page on your website is a very effective SEO method that will give you good results.

How many links do you think you should place in a blog posts?  2-3 should do the trick.  Be sure to also include the occasional link to authoritive websites such as WikiPedia.  This will help with speeding up the search engine crawling of your blog posts.
